  Swag Fundraiser

Photo 61The 2025 Swag fundraiser was so successful, thanks to all of your contributions and hard work! This was a very complex project and in true Granny fashion, you all came together and made it work seamlessly. Carol and Linda would like to thank each and every one of you who volunteered your time and creative talent: clipping foliage, picking up supplies, making bows, manning sales tables, delivered orders, helping with the website, communicating with the grannies and friends, arranging events, and many other tasks.

Special thanks to:

  • Linda F. and Carol K. who organized everything with efficiency and grace
  • Jane S. and her husband John B. for use of their perfect workshop
  • Raymond S. for his skilful work on the website order form, which worked seamlessly.
  • Elizabeth R. (friend of Stephanie C.) who donated a treasure trove of wreath making supplies.

The sales total was approximately $3360, just surpassing last year's high! Well done! We made and sold an astounding 100 table pots, 51 swags and 16 wreaths, made in three short weeks. They were all so beautiful! We had so many wonderful comments from customers who were very pleased with their purchases.Photo 63

In addition to the support this provides for the work of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, you support each other with willing hands and compassionate hearts. The laughter and caring conversations around the workbench were truly special. This is a beautiful group to be a part of!

  Fiesta

The Glacier Grannies participated in Fiesta again this year. Thanks to the hard work of many Grannies, the two days of sales were both a success and a festive, fun time for those involved. We made $5037 for the Campaign.

By taking advantage of extra tables, a wooden “tree” for knitted hats, and large peg boards, we were able to display our crafts to their best advantage and add framed descriptors, highlighting the use of different items. Sales were brisk, with one shopper commenting that they loved our crafts because they were both “beautiful and useful”.

Some new and popular items included beautiful small driftwood Christmas trees made by Jan M and Maybeth, jar caddies, car garbage bags and elastic bowl covers. Other favorites which always sell well included AIDS Angels, microwave cozies, fabric gift bags and cookie jar mixes.

We were also able to advertise and take orders for our beautiful Christmas swags, wreaths and table pots, thanks to Linda F. and Carol K.

Of course sales days are only successful with an enormous amount of preparation. Our talented crafters, angelers, sewers, knitters, and felters worked all year to make our creations. Dianne W. held a very successful workshop to bring sellers up to speed on these crafts old and new. Terry P.’s son-in-law made our wooden display trees. A huge thank you to Pat P. for juggling all the moving parts so successfully , to Dave Talbot for continuing to organize Fiesta, and the teamwork from Grannies who worked at transportation, set up and take down, sales, and balancing the finances. As always, thank you to Gail and Ross E. for the use of their garage for storage.

Sunday Concert in Marina Park

When: Sunday, July 13

Where: The Gazebo, Marina Park, Comox

This was a wonderful afternoon. In spite of the hot weather the concert was very well attended, with people finding comfort under the trees or their umbrellas.

band2

The music was beautiful, with performances from Fourtune and the Watershed Band.

The four members of Fourtune all sing in Just in Time Choirs’ Jems treble ensemble, and from this connection the group was conceived. Amanda Low (percussion) also sang in the Canadian Military Wives Choir Comox for several years. Jacquie DeLong (keyboards, guitar) has performed in numerous choirs and vocal groups throughout her life. Jane Dunnett (guitar, bass, mandolin) has been motivated by music throughout her life. Tracey Alvarez (uke) is an experienced musician from a young age and has performed for special events throughout BC. They applied their vocal skills to creating harmonies, accompanying them with a rootsy, contemporary vibe.

band1Jane Dunnett (guitar, bass, mandolin), John Brown (guitar, harmonica) and Keith Goddard (guitar, bass, lap steel) are the three members of Watershed Band. They have trained voices and embraced the opportunity to sing 3-part harmony in many of their songs, producing a folky vibe. Their roots, rock and bluesy tunes were performed with new twists in tempo, instrument changes and harmonies.

Among the audience were members of the Campbell River Grandmothers to Grandmothers who are talking of hosting a similar event.

Comments from the audience included: "Such a lovely afternoon of song & music in the park". "What a wonderful choice of songs". "We loved the music and the setting was perfect for a Sunday afternoon". "It was a wonderful concert; chock full of favourites, so well played". "We hope they come back next year."

Many thanks to the Fourtunes and the Watershed Band, to John Brown for his introductions, and our Granny volunteers: Virginia P. for advertising, Dianne W. for posting signs and picking up the banners, Joanne C. for walking all around the park, assisted by her cane, collecting donations, and Joanne W. for counting and caring for the money raised.

A total of $1,000 was raised for the Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

 Summer Social

When: Monday, July 7

Where: Joanne and Howard’s beautiful yard at Kye Bay

Many Grannies had a wonderful afternoon in Joanne and Howard’s beautiful yard. The weather was perfect, and chairs and umbrellas had been beautifully arranged for us. Grannies all brought delicious food to share. Joanne wrote to us:

waveThis past Monday, July 7, there was an excellent turn-out of Grannies at the Summer Social in Kye Bay.

We laughed, we talked, we brainstormed new ideas, we ate and ate, and 5 of you went for a swim! We had a wonderful time.

Thank you all so much for coming. And thanks for helping with the clean-up. What a great bunch of women you are! Your smiles and appreciation made my day!

Thank you, Joanne, for your hospitality.

 2025 Spring Sale

May 10th, 2025.

Tremendous team efforts by so many Glacier Grannies yielded incredible results in our outdoor 2025 Spring Sale, which raised almost $7,000! Several “GrandOthers” and Friends also played a part in helping with the preparation, set-up, selling and wrapping up of this sale, held in the Comox United Church parking lot on May 10th.

Grannies and Friends covered all bases, helping with publicity, signage, baking, plant management, collecting used items, selling GG crafts, jewellery, pottery and delivering unsold items to local thrift shops and unsold plants to the Cumberland Forest Society’s fundraiser.

On the day of the sale, who could have predicted that our Baking Table staffed by Marilyn B. and Pat W. would bring in close to $900 alone?! Marilyn’s 15 yummy pies were some of the big ticket items that gave this table a boost. Something to remember for next time.

Plants for indoor beauty and outdoor gardens began with vegetable starters planted and cared for by Carol K. She, her sister Loretta K., Liz B. and Janet M. staffed the tables and shelves housing massive contributions from Grannies and friends, of a broad range of plants. Kate R. added her greenery and assisted wherever her help was needed

Diane S., Val L. & Terry P. staffed tables featuring vegetable plants, painted pots and numerous household and art items. Linda M., Dianne W., Iris S. (who also assisted with organization) & her friend Maureen B., and Pat P. (who also took on promotional postings), Joanne W’s friend Norma B., Maybeth H. and Lydia R. staffed tables covered with donations from several different parties, (including GGs Joyce R. and Gillian F.). Clare F. and Barb L. guided shoppers for purchases of jewellery collected and curated by Kathy N.

GG Crafts were presented & sold by Shelley M. and Gillian L. They featured new items created by the Sew ‘n Sews (notably Carol C., Dianne W. & Lisa M.). Virginia P. (in addition to several publicity activities), once again presented local pottery made & donated by members of d’Esterre. All tables had successful sales.

A “Draw By Donation” basket was a new addition to the Debit/Credit tables managed by Joanne W. and Sandy H. (who also specializes in signage & posters). They also provided materials to educate the public about the importance of the Stephen Lewis Foundation’s Grandmothers to Grandmothers Campaign.

Swing Valley Two (Howard R. and Gregor S.) provided pleasant ambience with their musical selections. Many “Floaters” provided assistance wherever needed. These extra hands were provided by Linda F., Wendy G., Jan M., Marsha M. (sandwich board creator), Jennifer N., Marie S. and Judy T. Several GrandOthers assisted tremendously with some of the heavy lifting before and after the sale. We are very grateful to James F., Barry H., Real M., Tom M., Jerry P. and Rhett W.

A Spring Pre-Sale held by Joanne C. with assistance from Iris S., brought in over $300. That idea led Lydia R. to have a Holdover Sale which then added another $350. Pat W., Marsha M. and friend Lynn B. volunteered their time to help with this rainy day venture. All in all, the CVGG Annual Spring Sale was a great success and has given us some insight to make it even more profitable next year!

Kudos and Thanks to All!!
